Pandemic update from Christel House India

With over 225,000 COVID-19 cases reported daily in recent days, a pandemic resurgence has impacted Christel House India (CHI). After school closed to in-person classes, online remote learning has resumed. Overcoming changing challenges, the CHI team continues to distribute groceries and critical resources to students and their families.

“We are in constant contact with all staff members,” says Jaison C. Mathew, CEO of Christel House India. “The teachers and social workers are in touch with the students and their families on a daily basis.” While the city of Bangalore is on lockdown until June 7, the situation is improving in Atal Nagar as daily positive cases are falling faster. Mathew says many Christel House India students, parents and staff have tested positive. Fortunately, most are out of danger and recovering from the illness. “The rate of infection has dropped when compared to three weeks ago,” he says.

With the beginning of the new school year in India, Grades K through 9 and 11 have been promoted while new kindergarten student admissions have been finalized. For Grade 10 and 12 students, how to proceed with board exams is under consideration. A decision is expected to be announced by the local government in June.
