In the middle of the global pandemic, university scholarships have been awarded to 30 Christel House India graduates to date thanks to Karma Group, an international hotel and resort company. While the group’s fundraising effort, The Penguin Walk, wasn’t physically possible, that didn’t stop them from a successful effort. “This year’s Penguin Walk for Christel House was a virtual event,” says John Spence, Founder and Chairman, Karma Group. “While we weren’t able to participate and enjoy in person, I am proud of our team’s continued commitment to help others.” The Penguin Walk brings together a dedicated group of philanthropists for a day of fun, food and exercise to raise funds for Christel House. “We are privileged to provide College & Career scholarships for the deserving graduates of Christel House India,” says Spence. The Penguin Walk has been an annual event since 2014. While this year’s event had to be different, Spence says participants remain dedicated to the cause. “While we dearly miss Christel DeHaan, we will always remember her and support her dream.” Through the Christel House College & Careers program, 94% of Christel House India graduates continue their education or are employed.
