The health and wellness of our students is a priority. In collaboration with the M.S. Ramaiah Medical College & Hospital, a leading medical institution in Bangalore, medical examinations are conducted on the children by a team of specialized and super specialists. As it is difficult to ascertain their immunization records, all the children are immunized with 2 doses of DT or TT, 1 dose of MMR and 3 doses of Hepatitis 'B' vaccine. De-worming medicines are also administered every six months.
The school maintains a health chart for each student recording his or her height, weight and other measurements. New arrivals undergo a particularly rigorous examination since many of them suffer from malnutrition and other ailments. Thankfully, within a year of being provided with proper nutrition and healthcare, our students rebound quickly. Currently, 97% of our students have been declared healthy .
Bathing, Personal Hygiene & Laundry Program
As many children at Christel House do not have access to clean running water and soap at home, they are provided with a bathing facility at the Learning Center. All children are also given an orientation on the importance of personal hygiene, how to use the toilet and brush their teeth. Uniforms are washed and ironed weekly and returned to the students.
Food & Nutrition Programme
The children of Christel House are provided three well-balanced meals a day - breakfast, lunch and an evening snack and milk - as many of them cannot afford a proper meal at home. The students are also given vitamins, iron capsules and calcium supplements. 90% of a child’s daily nutrition requirements are met by the school. The nutrition program of Christel House India has been designed according to recommendations from the University of Agriculture Sciences (U.A.S) – Home Science Department. We deeply appreciate the support of the Karma Royal Group in sponsoring the food for all our children since the Programme’s inception.
Physical Fitness
Along with general nutrition, Christel House acknowledges that regular physical activity is vital for the growth and development of children. Physical Education classes are an important part of the curriculum. Top sportspersons from the Learning Centre are sent to external Coaching Camps for various sports. Our children compete on par with athletes from other schools and have often been rewarded awarded for their athletic prowess at the Annual Interstate Athletic Competition.
